Full Color Japanese Phoenix 3/4 Tattoo Sleeve

I couldn't wait to share the photos of the full color Japanese Phoenix tattoo sleeve Jason did! Omar came in last week to finally get his Japanese phoenix tattoo colored in. When Jason and Omar were first discussing which colors to use, Omar emphasized that he definitely wanted the color purple. Jason thought that was a great idea because he knew it would show nicely on Omar's darker olive skin tone. The tattoo was infused with lots of purple, yellow, orange, red, and even some blue and electric green. They will need another session to finish tightening up some areas and adding some details. This tattoo jumped off of his olive skin which was a real thrill to Omar. He was initially concerned about what colors would work with his skin tone but, it looks like they had no problems figuring out what would work! Jason did a great job and Omar was totally stoked with his tattoo.

Beautiful Female Japanese Phoenix Tattoo Art

Jason Dunn has started a new Japanese phoenix half-sleeve on a good friend, Jennifer. When Jennifer first came in for her art consultation she wanted to cover-up a Tinkerbell tattoo on her back. Well, by the time the consultation was over, Jennifer was totally excited to get a cover-up incorporated into her new half-sleeve! Jason designed something custom and feminine for her petite frame that included the phoenix and the Japanese flower, the chrysanthemum.

She was totally excited to get started on her tattoo when she came in for her first session. The tattoo session lasted about 4 hours and they got a lot done. Jason still needs another session or two to finish the black and gray shading and to incorporate the color. Jennifer was totally stoked about her new piece when she left, she was all smiles. Sylvia Ji's work is gaining a lot of recognition in the fine art world as well as the tattoo industry. Many Sylvia Ji inspired tattoos are appearing all over the country. The subject matter translates beautifully onto skin and Sylvia has single handedly started a tattoo art movement as you can clearly see in the tattoo done by artist Nikko.

Egyptian Scarab Tattoo Art by Jason Dunn

An old friend of Jason's, Kat, came looking to get a new tattoo. She had been contemplating an Egyptian style piece for a long time and decided now was the time to finally get it! Kat came to Jason fully prepared with artwork that she loved and explained exactly what she wanted incorporated into her tattoo. The scarab was the most important part of her tattoo art and a wonderful symbol it is.

Jason was stoked although he joked that this got the award for "the hardest tattoo of the year"! You gotta understand that perfect circles and lines inside of lines, inside of lines, inside of lines, is not the easiest thing in the world to tattoo! But I think Jason did a great job of it. He just did the black and gray portion of the tattoo this session, he will be adding color at her next appointment.

New Warrior Angel Tattoo Art from Jason Dunn

I hope that everyone had a wonderful 4th of July! We certainly did. Jason started Malik's warrior/angel tattoo. It has been a few months in the making but, well worth the wait. Malik had the idea of getting a warrior/angel type of tattoo. He came to Jason with some really good reference material that he found online. That is an awesome way to show your tattoo artist exactly the look you are going for.

Malik had some changes he wanted to make to help make his tattoo more meaningful and original for him. Jason actually ended up photographing Malik and incorporating him into the tattoo as the warrior angel. The first tattoo session lasted for about 4 hours and Malik sat like a champ! This was a pretty big piece to get as a first tattoo but, I think Malik made an excellent choice with this design.

The wings will wrap around his back and onto his chest and eventually Jason will be adding a tree onto his forearm, completing the sleeve. We have several sessions to go and lots of color to add but, they sure did get a lot done for the first go around.

Often when we hear the names of famous musicians, we just associate them with their musical talents.  Surprisingly, there are many who are also known for the incredible pieces of fine art they create.  I myself, am a die-hard Tony Bennett fan (yes, it's true!), and was stoked and amazed when I saw his beautiful pieces.  I guess I shouldn't be so surprised since most artistically inclined indivuduals often possess more than one creative talent.  Other famous musicians who are known to pick up the brush are David Bowie, John Mellencamp, Marilyn Manson, and Paul McCartney.  Some question that if these guys weren't famous, would we take a second look at their artwork?  I say, "Heck Yes I Would!!"  They, just like my pal Jason Dunn are truly gifted!  Check out Jason's Portfolio... you'll see what I mean!

Abstract Expressionism Artist Willem de Kooning

"Willem de Kooning began his artistic career early apprenticing to commercial art firm in the Nethlerlands at the age of 12. He received his training from the Rotterdam Academy of Fine Arts and moved to New York in 1925. He shared studio space with Arshille Gorky in the early 1930’s, gaining exposure to the Surrealist movement. After World War II, de Kooning gravitated toward Abstract Expressionism under the guidance of Adolph Gottlieb. After successfully leading the development of the movement with his dynamic painting, de Kooning turned toward clay sculpting late in his career."
