Artist Jason Dunn attends Coast Airbrush 8th Annual Kustom Kulture Art Show

 
 December 5th 2009 was the Airbrush Event of the year. Down in Anaheim, CA  every year Dave Monnig, owner of Coast Airbrush puts on a Kustom Kulture art show.  These art shows are geared toward the Kustom Kulture of automotive customization and paint.  For years Legends like Big Daddy Roth and Von Dutch were developing this underground California scene.  Now the playing field is wide open. Some of the eye candy available at the show was as follows.

• Custom Built and Airbrushed Choppers
  
• World Renowned Artists
  
• Airbrushing Lessons and Displays
  
• Local Bands and more.

In attendance were many of the Airbrush Industries finest,  Guy's like Cory Saint Clair, Gerald Mendez, OG Abel, Fonzy, Noah,Victor Sepulveda and Craig Fraser to name just  a few.  I always look forward to going to these shows and kickin around.  It gives me time to chat with my fellow artists and catch up plus all the inspiration I can lock into my creative mind.  

 I look forward to these shows every December and I will keep everyone updated so we can all hang out.  I missed the after party at club Ember but next year I will make sure to stick around.  Hope you enjoy this small glimpse into the Airbrush Industry and now go support your local artists!

Las Vegas Airbrush Getaway with Dru Blair and Jason Dunn

As some of you may know I just got back from my Airbrush Getaway Class with Dru Blair in Las Vegas.  I have been a fan of Dru Blair's photo realistic style of art for years.  When I found out he was going to be in Las Vegas for an intro to photorealism class I jumped at the chance.

Every year Airbrush Action Magazine puts on a series of classes for airbrush artists or for any artist for that matter.  These are held at various locations and for a small fee you can spend four days in a class and learn everything from photorealism art, automotive airbrushing, pin-up airbrushing to t-shirts art and so on.  These are great!  It gives you a chance to Brush Up on your skills or just hang out in Las Vegas with some like minded artists from all over the world.

Dru Blair's airbrush class is a favorite and man did I get my moneys worth.  Dru is a fun teacher who likes to keep the momentum flowing with humor and an over all wonderful spirit about art and the business.  I was surprised to see so many  newbies in this class and  the fact that they were getting good results as well with the work  will attest  to  Dru and his lovely assistant  Mel's  style of teaching.  We covered many  terms on lighting and  equipment used and spent grueling hours  mixing  colors from 9 am to almost 2 in the morning most nights.  I can't wait to get out to his school in South Carolina and pursue this education further.  Plus I cant wait to offer the results of my education and add some of these techniques in all my different mediums of art to you guys.

What I specialize in is simple.  I put custom detailed airbrushed finishes on your custom auto, bike, boat or airplane.

How it works
Usually a customer will bring me an Idea or concept for their project.  Next, we sit down one-on-one in an art consultation and develop a design that will compliment the particular piece.  It's common practice for the customer to bring along pictures as reference or in many cases they will sign off and give me full-artistic-license to do what I feel is best for the overall theme and concept in mind.  These works are what I like to call "rolling canvases" and usually cover the entire vehicle or vessel.

Pricing is always determined by the value of the work and detail involved in each particular creation. An estimate will be prepared for you after our initial one-on-one consultation.

TrueFire Custom Airbrushed Hockey Helmet 911 Tribute

Hello Everyone.  I know it's been a while but I'm back with a fun topic. Ok, so alot of you know I've been crazy busy tattooing alot of japanese work right now.  Yes the pics will be up in the next few months.  Big stuff like japanese suits and arm pieces etc...   Any how I got the chance to take a break from the irons and pic up my brushes for a moment.

So my new fireman buddy John comes in all pissed off and telling me he had a guy try to paint his helmet and blah blah blah. Bye the way  if you know  John, he's a laid back dude but just doesnt have time to get crappy work.  Plus fashion before function man!  You gotta look good on the ice!  Especially when you have a fricken puck flyin at your dome like a bat outta hell!

So we sat down and developed this big ornate plan to Never Forget and tribute for the Guys and Gals in the Fire Department  that risked there lives in the 9/11 attacks on the U.S.  John dropped the dough on me and I got to work.   So after a few weeks I developed the truefire for him and shot him an email and plans changed rapidly. ha. 

John said stop right there and dont change a thing bro.  "I love the airbrushed fire"  Just do the tribute on the back and it's a go.  Thank god man I was ready for the eagles and flags and all kinds of stuff but I think we made a much better choice and we'll do another tribute piece that will be a display item later.

A few weeks after the paint and clear and buffing and we both sat down and I swear it took an act of God to get the damn face cage back on straight but we knocked it out and all is well.  In fact Here's a quote from John on the whole thing.

"Jason... YOU ARE THE BOMB!!!  If anybody out there has the need to get something/anything airbrushed, Jason is "THE MAN"!  I came to Jason with the hope of getting my ice hockey goalie helmet painted to make it
"look better".    What he did was transform it from a simple helmet to a
WORK OF ART (that will have 100MPH pucks shot at it!)!    I wish I could
post a picture but I'm thinking that Jason will get around to it in between his other masterpieces he creates on a daily basis.  Anyway, just a note from another happy customer that WILL BE BACK for more!!!
